Although many DIY ceramic coatings are capable of being applied to different materials, these all-in-one solutions simply don’t hold up the same. Some will last for about a year – while others might push the protection to 24 months.

#1 – More Layers with Professional Coatings

One of the reasons why Ceramic Pro 9H is only applied in a controlled environment and by trained experts is the complexity of installation. It would be better to apply a few coats of a paint sealant. #2 – More SiO2 Is Not Always Better

That’s not true. In fact, SiO2 is the ingredient that helps provide a flat and smooth surface – or creates a super hydrophobic effect.

Titanium Dioxide or TiO2 is the main ceramic ingredient which impacts the hardness – or longevity. However, applying multiple coats of a coating with less SiO2 progressively adds depth and a flatter surface – producing better protection and super hydrophobic properties.

There are other ceramic coatings that contain no SiO2 or TiO2 that replicate an amazing slippery surface. So, if you only want to dazzle your friends with the car’s ability to repel water a few days after applying the coating – any coating will ‘work’ for that result. However, if you want true professional ceramic coating protection – don’t be hung up on SiO2 percentages.

#3 – Prep Work is Tricky and Time Consuming

There are a lot of positive reviews on some of the higher-grade DIY nano coatings. But, have you ever read them in detail? Most average car owner speak highly about how shiny the paint job on the vehicle looks after applying the DIY coating. However, keep scrolling down the review, and you’ll see a lot of complaints about the paint correction or prep work required.

Now let’s be clear – a car ceramic coating, regardless of the formulation, does not COVER UP scratches, blemishes, or minor damage on the car’s paintwork. Due to this fact, it’s vital to repair any imperfections prior to application. This is done via the prep work.

Ceramic car coating prep work consists of a decontamination car wash, clay bar treatment, paint correction (if any imperfections are present) and a final IPA (isopropyl alcohol) surface prep spray panel wipe. Depending on the condition of your vehicle’s paint surface, the prep work can take a manner of hours or days.

The same prep is recommended for paint protection film. Applying carnauba wax or ceramic wax also requires some level of prep.

When you opt for the DIY ceramic coating, you’re typically stuck with all the prep work on the car’s exterior that comes with it. However, you can choose to have a professional auto salon help with the prep if needed, but at that point, it makes sense to spend a few extra dollars for a genuine ceramic paint protection option.

#4 – A Unique Formulation for Different Materials

Ask any car detailer and they’ll tell you that there is no such thing as an all-in-one product for your car. DIY coatings are advertised as an all-in-one solution for protecting clear coats, glass, wheels, and vinyl. REAL QUANTIFIABLE RESULTS

NON TOXIC
Ceramic Pro is a non-toxic product and the tests that have been conducted by SGS are: ASTM F963-08 (4,3,5) Heavy Metal Lead, Antimony, Arsenic, Barium, Cadmium, Chromium, Mercury, Selenium. Result: Not detected in all tested substances.

UV PROTECTION
The UV protection keeps paint, rubber and plastic from aging. The tests conducted by SGS; ASTM G154-06 and ASTM D2244 determine color changes on surfaces exposed to UV rays. Result: No color change detected.

DURABILITY
ASTM D3359 Adhesion test. This test covers assesses the adhesion of coating films to metallic substrates by applying and removing pressure-sensitive tape. Result: No coating loss even when using the strongest tape.

  • CHARACTERISTICS

Temperature

The coating can be applied in temperatures as low as -20 Fahrenheit. Once cured, the coating provides protection from extreme temperatures ranging from -50 to 2,200 Degrees Fahrenheit.

Oxidation & Corrosion Resistant

Ceramic Pro protects paint and metal from coming into contact with water and oxygen preventing oxidation and corrosion. The ASTM B117 Salt Spray Corrosion Test provides a controlled corrosive environment which has been utilized to produce relative corrosion resistance information for specimens of metals and coated metals exposed in a given test chamber. The chemical tests conducted by SGS and internally are: 5% salt spray for 350 hours with results of no visible damage, as well as 5% salt spray for 5000 hours with no visible damage (internal test).

Chemical Resistance

The coating has 100% resistance against damaging contaminants and harsh chemicals. Once cured, the only way to remove the coating is through heavy abrasion. The chemicals tested and conducted by SGS include: JIS K5400 Alkali, Acids and Salt. This test method identifies how well the coating resists sodium carbonate, sulfuric acid and sodium chloride despite heavy exposure. Result: 5% Na2CO3 for 24 hours: No visible damage, 5% H2SO4 for 24 hours: No visible damage, and 5% NaCL for 96 hours: No visible damage.

Flexibility

Ceramic Pro has proven to be a perfect coating for surfaces that are exposed to expansion and deformation. The test conducted by the SGS is the Mandrel Bend Test (ASTM D522 test). This test is useful in evaluating the flexibility of coatings on substrates. Result: 0 mm of coating loss at 180° rotation.

Hardness

In the coating industry a products hardness or ability to resist scratches is determined by the pencil test. In the Pencil test conducted by SGS (JIS K5400) a coated panel is placed on a firm horizontal surface. The pencil is held firmly against the film at a 45° angle (pointed away from the operator) and pushed away from the operator in a 0.256-inch strokes. On a scale ranging from 6B (softest) to 9H (hardest), Strong has been tested and classified above 9H. impact In the Impact resistance testing conducted by SGS (ASTM D2794 test) coatings attached to substrates are subjected to damaging impacts during the manufacture of articles and their use in service. This test method for impact resistance is useful in predicting the performance of organic coatings and their ability to resist cracking caused by impacts. Result: 80/80 inch pounds.

Adhesion

The test conducted by SGS is the ASTM D3359 Adhesion test. This test covers procedures for assessing the adhesion of coating films to metallic substrates by applying and removing pressure-sensitive tape over cuts made in the film. Result: 5B (No coating loss when using strongest tape).

UV Protection

The UV protection keeps paint, rubber and plastic from aging. The tests conducted by SGS; ASTM G154-06 and ASTM D2244 determine color changes on surfaces exposed to UV rays. Result: No color change

Weight

A cured layer of Strong weighs between 0.2 to 1 gram/square foot depending on porousness of the surface.

Hydrophobicity

A surface level of hydrophobia is dependent on the water contact angle of the surface. The higher angle the less dirt or liquid will attach to the surface. Strong 2.0 has a contact angle of at least 110 degrees.

Electrical Resistivity

The coatings ability to conduct electricity in room temperature is extremely low. With higher temperatures the conductivity increases.

Gloss or Color Changes

The coating does not always increase gloss. It preserves the shine of a surface at the time of treatment. Color and shine depend on the surface being treated.

Nontoxic

So, back to the question, “How can glass protect and not crack?”. You’ll be able to see that it bends and flexes at the same rate as paint. It will not crack. Here’s a little more about how Ceramic Pro works. When we’re talking about Ceramic Pro, we’re talking about nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is very, very, very small. An anchor pattern is basically the open pores of your paint that are incredibly small, atomic level particles. What Ceramic Pro does is it takes your anchor pattern and it permanently fills the pores with silica dioxide and titanium dioxide. This permanently increases the hardness and UV protection in addition to all of the other great characteristics that Ceramic Pro offers.


What makes our ceramic coating so special?

One of the other things that makes Ceramic Pro so unique and so special, is that it was designed to be a multi-layerable coating. So, what does that mean to you as a consumer and to your vehicle? When you apply anything, even Ceramic Pro, to the surface of your vehicle, your pores will be filled but you will have some peaks that remain above. So, by adding multiple layers, you’re able to achieve a brand new top substrate that’s more visually appealing. It is much more slick and way harder.

This brings us to the term that you might hear pretty often, 9H. What is 9H? It is a measurement of hardness. Once we’re able to achieve this new top substrate, you’re able to get much closer to this 9H hardness than the original substrate. Most typical clear coats measure between 2 and 3H. As you can see, we’re able to almost triple the density of your original substrate with our ceramic coating.

So, how does it work and how does it bond to your vehicle? Waxes and sealants of the past worked by forming a physical bond. The particles are quite large and bond well to each other, but not so well at permanently filling the pores. They will bond together and sit on top of the surface to protect what’s underneath. Now, Ceramic Pro works differently by forming a covalent bond and permanently filling the pores using incredibly small particles. This effect cannot be washed off or removed by detergents. Heat will not evaporate it as waxes and sealants have in the past. This is a permanent bond, so it cannot be removed by anything other than abrasion.

Next, let’s talk about something you’ll commonly see with marketing in Ceramic Pro which is water behavior or beading. What you will see is that once Ceramic Pro fills the pores, it leaves behind nanotubes that stand straight up. The nanotubes allow us to get insanely tight water beading. This is what promotes the self-cleaning effect and why your vehicle stays clean for so much longer. Of course, over time, this can diminish slightly. However, the pores being filled is a permanent bond. Your UV protection, your stain resistance, and all of the things that are warrantied that are environmental, will remain permanently.

Lastly, we get asked quite often, “Can I put this on my older car? Or, “Will it fill in scratches?”. The answer to that is yes, you can put it on older cars but it does not fill in scratches. It doesn’t work that way. However, what’s great about what we do is that all of our technicians are also trained in the art of paint correction. Why would you need that? We’ll explain.

RIDS stands for random isolated defects and scratches. What we mean by this, is that over time, as you wash your car, drive it, or do anything else, you’ll get random scratches. The more RIDS you get, the more you will see a spider webbing effect on your paint. The more scratches you get over time, the less clear your paint seems to be. Through the art of paint correction, which all of our technicians do, we reduce the RIDS to get rid of that spider webbing effect.

No matter how well versed you are in your knowledge of car maintenance, you have definitely heard about car wax. But what really is car wax? Car wax is a formulated blend of waxes, oils, and solvents which can include crude oil distillates, ethanol, mineral spirits, petroleum, naphtha, and more. This mixture is meant to add a layer of protection to your paint and bring out the best of your vehicle’s luster and shine. A good wax will protect your car’s paint through moisture, UV rays, high temperatures, and will help prevent the oxidation process.

What is Natural Carnauba Wax?

As mentioned before, car wax is pretty packed full of chemicals. Carnauba Wax is definitely a more natural option. It is a plant-based, vegetable wax that is produced using the leaves of the Brazilian Palm tree. Carnauba wax is usually the preferred wax of car enthusiasts and collectors and is considered to be the preferred wax of car enthusiasts. Carnauba is blended with oils, petroleum distillates, solvents, and other like ingredients in order to create a usable car wax product.

Carnauba wax will give you a stunning finish, bringing out a blindingly glossy shine and create a showroom finish for your car. Because of its natural properties, carnauba wax will need to be used more frequently than synthetic wax products. It is widely considered by car enthusiasts to be the best type of wax for your car. Carnauba wax is hard and can provide some protection against light scratches, but will mostly protect your paint from sun damage. If you are looking for the ultimate shine, carnauba wax is a great option even though it does not last for a very long time. Generally, carnauba can last anywhere from one to four months depending on the conditions your car is exposed to.

What is Synthetic Car Wax?

Synthetic wax can also be known as a paint sealant. It is a type of car wax that is made with artificial ingredients. They are a newer type of car wax and are increasing in popularity among car enthusiasts and auto detailers. The main reason for this is because they last longer than a more natural wax like carnauba. Synthetic wax provides great protection from UV rays and can help reduce damages from light scratches, but only light scratches. If an intense shine isn’t what you desire, then you might choose a synthetic wax because it will provide you with protection for a longer period of time. It will still leave your car looking glossy, but it just will not shine as well as a carnauba wax. You will get an equal amount of protection with both. A synthetic wax will last you anywhere from four to twelve months depending on what it’s exposed to.

How is Car Wax Sold? – Paste, Liquid, Spray

Car waxes come in three forms: liquid, paste, and spray. Liquid waxes are good for cleaning, gloss, and durability. They can be more difficult to apply evenly and buff out. Most liquid waxes will dry to a haze within a minute, but this varies with win, sunlight, and thickness of application. Now, let’s move on to paste waxes. Paste wax is pretty easy to apply. They do not perform as good as liquids do and can be difficult to use once you reach the bottom of your container. They will usually dry to a haze within 30 seconds. Finally, we have spray waxes. Spray waxes are best fit for newer cars with excellent finishes. They are convenient, compatible with plastic, easy to use, and good for spot waxing. They are quick to apply and can be wiped off without drying. However, they are as durable.

What Ingredients are in a Car Wax?

The ingredients in a car wax depend on the type that you choose. As mentioned before, normally a car wax is a formulated blend of waxes, oils, and solvents. What are the Pros and Cons to Waxing a Car?

There are both good things and bad things about car waxing. Here is a list of the pros and cons:

  • Can DIY, you don’t always need a professional
  • It is heat resistant
  • Fairly affordable

Car Waxing Cons:

  • Requires a lot of maintenance and reapplication
  • In order for it to work properly, it needs to be applied to a smooth wax free surface each time
  • Over time it can become costly
  • Can be confusing to choose the right products
  • Constant washing and reapplication of car wax can wear out your clear coat over time
  • You can end up with swirl marks after wax application

Is There a Better Alternative to Car Wax and Sealants?

Yes, of course there is. The better alternative to car wax and sealants would be Ceramic Pro nano ceramic coating.
